Squads

There is a natural progression for swimmers from squad to squad. Achieving standards set by the Chief Coach can make this progression.

Each squad or group has a designated coach who is responsible for the general development of that group. Ultimately, the Chief Coach has full control of all squads. The Chief Coach also maintains the responsibility for coaching and developing the Senior/Youth Squad.

Squad Promotion

Eventually every swimmer will improve and will require to be promoted to the next level in their development. Promotion to any particular group or squad will normally take place twice per year, that is at middle and end of year and on the recommendation of their current Teacher / Coach.

A swimmer’s promotion will be discussed between their current Teacher / Coach and their prospective new Teacher / Coach. It is also expected that prior to promotion, the swimmer(s) should overlap with their new group so that they get used to different
training times and styles before permanently moving. Just prior to moving to a new squad, their new teacher / coach should explain to them what is expected of them, this may have to be done with the swimmer’s parents.

Swimmers in Teaching Groups may be promoted at any time dependant on their progress.

There are 3 main requirements that decide upon which squad any individual will be based. These are: ATTITUDE - ATTENDANCE - ABILITY.

If a swimmer WANTS to develop to their full potential, they MUST have the correct ATTITUDE. This comes from being disciplined and self motivated. All training plans are developed to give the dedicated swimmer every opportunity to improve.

Every swimmer must also carry the right attitude when it comes to diet, competitions,
flexibility, time keeping etc.Going hand in hand with attitude is ATTENDANCE.

NO swimmer can improve or maximise their potential if they do not attend training. It is understood that Senior and Youth squad members have the added pressures of school, university and sometimes work. This should not be an excuse for not attending training. Time management should be utilised to allow every member regular, uninterrupted training.

The final attribute for squad membership is ABILITY. It is expected that as a child grows, their ability should grow with it, sometimes this is not the case. Provided that they show the correct attitude and also show a willingness to improve, they will still be considered for the next squad level.
