Squad Information

The Senior Squad would typically consist of the top 12-16 swimmers, minimum age of 14 years. They should be technically competent in all 4 strokes.

The Youth Squad would consist of the next 12-18 swimmers in the club. Should be competent in all 4 strokes and be 12 yrs old during that year.

The Junior Squad is the first training squad in the club and usually contains the next 12~18 swimmers in the club. They should be able to do all 4 strokes.

The Development Squad is used as a transition from teaching to coaching and is used to develop swimmers to compete in their first competitions.

There are various Teaching Groups that provide different levels of teaching depending upon ability. Any swimmer who wishes to join Fins C.S.C. will be assessed and placed in a squad or teaching group which best fits their ability.

Squad Membership

There are 3 main requirements that decide upon which squad any individual will be based.

These are: ATTITUDE - ATTENDANCE - ABILITY

If a swimmer WANTS to develop to their full potential, they MUST have the correct ATTITUDE. This comes from being disciplined and self motivated. All training plans are developed to give the dedicated swimmer every opportunity to improve. Every swimmer must also carry the right attitude when it comes to diet, competitions,
flexibility, time keeping etc.

Going hand in hand with attitude is ATTENDANCE. NO swimmer can improve or maximise their potential if they do not attend training. It is understood that Senior and Youth squad members have the added pressures of school, university and sometimes work. This should not be an excuse for not attending training. Time management should be utilised to allow every member regular, uninterrupted training.

The final attribute for squad membership is ABILITY. It is expected that as a child grows, their ability should grow with it, sometimes this is not the case. Provided that they show the correct attitude and also show a willingness to improve, they will still be considered for the next squad level.
